Organised Christmas – Gift Wrapping

christmas button wrapping christmas wrap mixed ribbon christmas wrap with puzzle piece

Four weeks to go….

Time to choose your preferred Christmas gift wrapping.  Presents seem so much more thoughtful and recipients feel so much more special if there has clearly been some planning in the precious wrap hiding that perfect gift inside.

After spending so much of your precious time  shopping (on line or in store) the last thing you want is for someone to tear open a haphazard covering and then quickly move on to something looking more inviting, with pretty ribbons, tinsel or interesting artwork.

Another bonus is all those lovely wrapped presents, stacked under the tree, looking gorgeous and inviting for the weeks prior to Christmas.  Imagine how organised and prepared you will look to your pre Christmas guests….not to mention that lovely warm secure feeling you will have to be so prepared for the big day!

This is my pick for Christmas gift wrapping for 2011.  I love the idea of recycled brown paper, both simple and kind to the environment.  I have purchased a set of alphabet stamps and a variety of ink pads (midnight blue, silver & coral) and my 4 year old and I will stamp our family and friends name on the packages, then finish off with pretty ribbon…who wouldn’t want to open something so stylish!

Need a little inspiration, you can see more of our favourite choices for Christmas gift wrapping this year on our Pinterest board, ‘Stylish Christmas’ along with other ideas for a pretty and swish Christmas 2011.

Next week we give you some decorating ideas…time to put up the Christmas tree!!!

Which coloured gift wrapping will you choose this year?

Organised Christmas – Unusual Gifts & Stocking Fillers

Christmas box delivery

Five weeks till Christmas…be organised, be calm, be stylish!  We’ll give you weekly lists to get you there so you can actually enjoy Christmas Day.

I don’t know why, but I already feel like I am behind.   I think it’s the buzz of my inbox flooded with suggestions of Christmas gift ideas, catering options and party invitations.

I see rows and rows of decorations, cards and advertising in every shopping centre, supermarket and boutique, which has now started by mind racing as to what wrapping I will use, which culinary dish will I take to family functions, what colour baubles will adorn my table…the list is long, so lets start at the beginning.

I am going to post an Organised Christmas list here every Monday of the things you need to consider for the weeks leading up to Christmas Day:

Week 5 – Unusual Gifts & Stocking Fillers

Start your Organised Christmas Gift List.  Jot down all the people you need to buy for and what they might like.  When something catches your eye, especially on-line, scan over the site and see if you can buy a few presents from the one place to save time and postage. I see there are still some savings and discounts to take advantage of but these will end soon as the big day draws nearer.  So start clicking….and of course any new mummy would love our new Stroller Bag, beautifully boxed and ready to make someone’s Christmas wishes come true!

Unusual gifts and stocking fillers are items to keep an eye out for, time will fly by quickly and you will feel so much more smug if you have a cupboard full of bits and pieces to put together in a really fun gift package for your family members and friends.

Items currently in my gift cupboard include; mini lego figurines, crazy bones, silk crayons, Christmas inspired tin boxes to fill with melting moments, play dough sets and Scoobits (perfect stocking filler review by Mumma’s Mini Me’s).

You have one week to compile your Organised Christmas Gift List.  Next week we start on wrapping.  You’ll be so organised, you’ll love Christmas this year!

What’s in your present drawer ready to go?

5 Steps to a Tidy Toybox

Picking up toys

When the shock of motherhood with a newborn faded, you started out with all the children’s toys neatly sorted, coded and stored in their toybox {especially till you added a sibling to your brood or a charmingly inquisitive two year old!}.

You look around…the toys have magically multiplied and seemingly now have their own families residing in every cupboard, drawer, shelf and spare corner.  Toys, no matter how beautiful or engaging, are appealing dumped in amongst twenty other upended gorgeous play things. A little ‘Stylish Little Me’ order will bring all those toys back to life and give your child a sense of respect for their belongings.

So lets start with one toy drawer or toybox, the one that seems the most monstrous of all, as it will get the ball rolling and then stop taunting you, I promise!

Where to Begin

Take everything out, wipe out the bottom, so you start with a clean clear space.

Choosing Your Toybox System

Choose your toybox system {I find clear boxes are best, no need for labelling and easy to move into a larger or smaller box when needed}.  I will mention here that I am an avid Ikea fan, as I started with two small boxes from the SAMLA range and have ended up with at least 100 in the various sizes available.  Place about 10 containers, in assorted sizes, next to the pile and start the task at hand.  Figurines, cars, dress ups, animals, matching sets, puzzles and games.  Put all the sorted items into the appropriate sized containers or back in their original boxes.

Clearing the Clutter

Throw out any broken toys or those with missing pieces rendering them useless.  Any toys outgrown, but still in good condition, could really be passed to a friend, stored for next baby or given to charity.  Better for the environment and creates more smiles.

A Dedicated Place

Find a clear space on a bookshelf, in a cupboard or drawer and store the toys in a place where the children can reach for themselves.  Try not to overstuff the area, everything should be accessible for little hands, with space to move should some be on top of each other.

Avoid Toybox Tantrums

A little instruction and lots of encouragement on packing away in the toybox or toy tidy when finished ensures logical and happy play when you need it too!

This system is also great for rotating toys as you can easily store little boxes up high for when you need something ‘new’ while you sit with a cup of tea and check ‘stylish little me’s’ next posting!

Now what to do with the things you took out to get that clear shelf space?….oh yes you’ve started a complete toy overhaul, I guess you could engage the services of a professional spring cleaner {or do as I do and call mum for help!}.

Do you have any photos or great tips for sorting out the toys to share?

Being a Stylishly Organised Mum in 2012

Oxford dictionary says:

ORGANISED – arranged in a systematic way, especially on a large scale & able to plan one’s activities efficiently

Being an Organised Mum

Its no surprise that Mum is usually the one to organise the family, we are great at being able to juggle everyone’s general health and well being, transport, education, clothing, fun, sports, holidays, family commitments, domestic duties and social engagements (not to mention taking care of ourselves & working). Although most of us can outsource some of these areas (cleaners, ironing service, take out, grocery delivery etc) we still have to use our organisational skills be the project manager of the family.

It is essential to be organised and the more organised you are the less flustered and rushed you are. You will then radiate the demeanour of being in control, enjoying your time with your children and looking stylishly competent as you drop by the park on the way to get groceries and dinner is doing a slow roast in the oven. Don’t you feel clever when you get home!

What do you do to be an organised mum? How do you sort, organise and keep on top of all those tasks? Electronically, wall calendar or family organiser? Or even a combination of all three?

Send us your preferred method of planning family life and we will do a three part series with a link to the best of the organisers for two thousand and twelve.

5 star hotel in Sydney – The Darling

Welcome to Sydney Darling! This Friday will see the official opening of the latest 5 star hotel in Sydney and it couldn’t be more appropriately named with rooms and suites such as; Darling, Jewel, Adored, Stellar and ‘Penthouse’…which clearly needs no explanation.

A celebrity filled event was attended last night by Leonardo DiCaprio and Stevie Wonder to reinforce the calibre of the project.  The hotel boasts views from the Harbour Bridge to the Blue Mountains {on a clear day} and is part of The Star complex receiving a huge and gorgeously expensive make over on the old Star City site in Pyrmont.

Every whim will be catered for with a little high end retail therapy {Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci and Bottega Veneta}, 20 restaurants & cafe’s {including Sokyo a restaurant run by former Nobu Chef Chase Kojima, Adriano Zumbo’s new patisserie and Stefano Manfredi’s ‘Balla‘} and to help you get over the dent in the platinum…’The Spa’ at The Darling offers everything you would expect after passing the keys to ‘Valet’.

What luxury Darling!…we just wonder what happen to our VIP invite?

Private Plane Privilege

Travelling With Kids

Travelling with the family has never been more exciting, or more tortuous. Airports are the epitome of hell. Regardless of whether you are flat bedding in the pointy end of the plane or cramped like a sardine in Row 46, the actual process of getting through security and immigration is a teeth grinding series of humiliations. You can barely stand the gum chewing official demanding that you take your shoes off and walk on a filthy floor!

Yes, yes, I know the scanning is for our safety. Buy why is it that overriding sound you hear when standing barefoot, while being frisked with a pinging wand, is that of stable doors being locked?
